Pragmatic aspects of communication with chatbots

Chatboti, programy schopné komunikovat s člověkem, jsou v posledních letech více a více oblíbení. Ale protože je umělá inteligence velmi složitá vědecká disciplína, je obtížné vybudovat robota, který by se v komunikaci podobal člověku. Tato práce poskytne stručný úvod do teorie chatbotů, kde a jak jsou využíváni, a technologie Zpracování přirozeného jazyka. Krátce bude popsáno několik chatbotů, společně s příkladovými konverzacemi. Hlavní důraz bude kladen na pragmatickou stránku konverzace s chatboty, zejména na dodržování konverzačních maxim a kooperačního a zdvořilostního principu. Získané poznatky budou názorně předvedeny na analýzách dialogů s chatbotem ve druhé části práce.
Speech Acts in Videogames

This bachelor thesis introduces a new approach of classifying interactions in video games based on the interaction between addressor and addressee and includes an analysis and comparison of speech acts in video games Life Is Strange and Call of Duty. This classification can be used to aid the process of analysis of speech acts in other video games and also assist game developers in the process of creating in-game interactions. To create such classification, the relation between the player and an interactable in-game element had to be prioritised. Then, the main classes of interactions in video games are introduced with each class containing specific types of speech acts. The analysis of speech acts in Life Is Strange and Call of Duty serves as an example of how this classification can be used and also shows many examples of how the game conveys information to the player. The list of interactions in this paper is not complete, but includes the most common and universal ones.

Ze vzniklého textu je vytvořen komentář za účelem analýzy rozdílů mezi originálem a překladem. Součástí je diskuze o přenosu informací, kohezi textu, terminologii a lokalizaci. V práci je také část věnovaná podrobnostem odborného stylu.
Realisation of Selected Speech Acts by Foreign Learners of Czech

The aim of this thesis is to conduct a pragmatic analysis of speech acts as salutation, request, apology, offer and farewell in a written correspondence. The accent is primarily on expressions of politeness in each speech act. The analysis is researched in beginner students of the Czech language in a questionnaire before a lesson, in a written assignment after the lesson and then in the same assignment written by native speakers. The aim is to discover a proper way to teach the expression of the given speech acts as part of Czech for foreigners. The questionnaire filled before the lesson was compared with the assignment written after the lesson. Implementing the comparison, it is defined to what extent had the students improved their pragmatic competence in written correspondence. The same work was assigned to native Czech speakers and the expressions used in the lesson are evaluated based on their results compared with the results of non-native speakers. Through the research we concluded that the difference between the results before and after the lesson are striking. Uninstructed students have frequently expressed unintentionally less politely than it is customary to Czech language, sometimes even impolitely and these errors were predominantly eliminated in the written assignment. Pragmatics Aspects in Czech Language Textbooks for Elementary Schools

The topic of this thesis is communicative competence and pragmatic aspects in Czech language textbooks at elementary schools. Education aims to achieve six key competencies, including communicative competence. The thesis's theoretical part focuses on defining concepts such as pragmatics, gender, politeness, cooperative communication, dialogue, argumentation, and manipulation. In the practical part, the thesis analyses five third-year Czech language textbooks and examines to what extent pragmatic aspects are included in the textbooks. The research has shown that although pragmatic aspects are included in the textbooks, their level is not sufficient in most cases, and it is necessary to supplement these topics with additional supporting materials. The outcome of this work could be useful for Czech language teachers at the first level of primary schools who intend to focus on developing their pupils' communicative competence and improving their pragmatic communication skills. Czech Language in the L-Pack

( Abstract(( This diploma thesis pursues an analysis of a language component in a didactical material called L-pack which is dedicated to A2 level migrants according to Common European Framework of Reference. This document projects an inner differentiation of the Czech language as well as communication needs of a focus group. The theoretical part of the thesis deals with the importance of a situation in communication for didactical purposes considering the factual usage. In three chapters is focussed on pragmatic aspects of language behavior, to the choice of language and stylistic tools according to a character of a situation and monitors different approaches to communication situations to achieve optimal development of student' s communication competence. The methodological part presents the target and the work order and describes the didactical materials that have been analyzed. The analytical part of this thesis follows implementation manners of the L-pack in several dimensions. Selected cases are reviewed not only with respect to second language educational specialists but also with regard to the linguistic awareness of the Czech native speakers. Evident and Hidden Manipulation in Political Speeches of Socialistic Era

This thesis is concerned with identifying and describing the linguistic elements of manipulative strategies of selected political speeches from 1948 till 1957. In the first part the work is focused on the principles of political communication, further persuasion and manipulation with respect to the relationship of these terms. In the next sections we find formal and functional description language means with regard to their pragmatic semantic components, mechanisms of propaganda and political line of reasoning. Knowledge of various aspects of language allows description of specific manipulative tendencies in political speeches and their burden in terms of evident and hidden action to the addressee.
Forms of address in Finnish in the context of dynamic politeness norms

The aim of this thesis is to describe the current state of select politeness phenomena in Finnish which are expressed through language structure, namely the forms of address. My main research questions were: How do Finnish native speakers use T- and V-forms? Has there been any perceived development in the use of address forms in Finnish in the past ten years? Are there any special situations, occasions, places or institutions (...) in which speakers expect particular form of address? Have they experienced any recent changes? How is the possible rise in use of the V-form connected to the use of other politeness expressions in Finnish? The thesis begins with a general description of the most significant theoretical approaches to politeness. It, then, defines a place of forms of address within the linguistic politeness. The main theoretical basis for the thesis is linguistic pragmatics, in which politeness is seen as a dynamic interpersonal activity. Not only is politeness a linguistic phenomenon but it is also a matter of social behaviour. Therefore, it differs culturally but also situationally.
